The PUMA City Shipping Container Store was designed by the New York architecture firm LOT-EK. They've been noticed for their creative re-use of empty shipping containers. The three story, 11,000 square foot design uses 24 refurbished shipping containers and includes a bar and two decks to enjoy the view. Completed in September 2008, the store is currently at the Volvo Ocean Race so modern day Voyage of the Mimi guys and gals can get some fresh PUMA schwag. The entire store can be transported to new locations and assembled quickly. Grand Bend should be so lucky.
Q has done several features on shipping containers and subway cars being reused for urban design and architecture in the form of art studios, subway car art exhibits, affordable housing, children's activity centres and the Italian Greentainer Architecture Project. It's flexible and reusable urban space that can be transported anywhere. That's green.
