Designing the Rupee

Attention designers! The world's largest democracy is searching for a new currency symbol to represent the rupee on the global stage. India's government officials are hoping the rupee sign will become as ubiquitous as the US dollar $. The search for the perfectly formed sign is via an open competition, which stipulates that entries "should represent the historical and cultural ethos of India." I think Andy Mangold should take a crack at it.
