When Grown Men Cry

Let's play some catch up, okay?
It seems to me that cultural evolution has failed in its attempt to make crying an acceptable male expression. Photographer Sam Taylor-Wood's series of images speaks to this assertion by allowing us to look on in, perhaps terror or shock as some of Hollywood's leading men shed some salt. Men crying is a spectacle after all. Sean Penn, Forest Whitaker, Ed Harris (above) Dustin Hoffman, Daniel Craig, Robin Williams, Robert Downey Jr. and the legendary Paul Newman bear some 'authentic' and 'fake' tears for Wood's camera. Despite the undeniable range of emotions these thoroughbreds have displayed on screen, these intimate sessions seem to isolate the emotion and place it on a pedestal.
