My favorite design student is at it again. Andy Mangold designed a simple binding of '8 of something' for his Artist's Book class at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. The booklet opens like a paint swatch and features Andy's tools of choice: 'My book is all about the tools I use to create; it is both a reaction to my being the only male in my book arts class and people who assume design is synonymous with digital.' Made of scrap flamed maple, Andy laser cut his own original vector illustrations into the wood. He bound the series of 8 with a padlock to protect his craft from the 'onset of the digital age.'
Good on ya Andy.
