Over the last week I have become quite fond of the
King of Thailand,
King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Since taking the throne in 1946, the King has endeared himself to the people of Thailand by caring for them like his own. This country is a democracy and has its parliament like our own in
Canada. Corruption and greed run rampant in the government. So, it is the King who takes
care of the people. He stands up for them. You can feel it in these streets how much they love him. They
really do. His picture appears in every shop in stunning gold frames surrounded by flowers and sticks of incense. In a time of political uncertainty, these people are steadfast in their love for the king. He's something to hold on to. And that's beautiful.
Unfortunately, the King of Thailand is quite
sick. His failing health and threat of political insurgence makes the future look bleak. But their love for him remains. A handsome man with a very pretty wife and the picture above - his meeting with The (Other) King - is the image in my mind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Take care of each other.
The world!
The world!
The world.
